The “Ideas from Everyone” series is a collection of proposals and fantasy maps contributed by other transit fans that I personally find interesting. For a full index with ideas on all topics, see here.
This post includes proposals for the Green Line (GL). However, it’s intended to have minimal overlaps with the concept of Green Line Reconfiguration (GLR), which is in its own page.

A series of old but still very innovative ideas (vanshnookenraggen, Feb 2008)
- Even though Van branded it as an Urban Ring redesign and included many UR components, much of the proposal focuses on the Green Line, as he proposed implementing most of UR under the Green Line system. Many key concepts and their underlying intuitions eventually became GLR, but there are still a few very interesting ideas that are now less frequently associated with GLR.
- Perhaps the most curious proposal: Quad-tracking the section between Park St and Government Center, and grade-separating Brattle Loop.
- Subsequent ArchBoston comments on the proposal in 2024, including from myself, can be found starting from here.
RailsRoadsRiverside’s ideas on modifying Government Center and Brattle Loop
Several posts have been made on this topic:
- Assorted thoughts on converting Brattle Loop to stub-end operations (Blogpost and ArchBoston comment, Oct 2023)
- A revival on ArchBoston, about simplifying Haymarket-GC, possibly with a stub-end track replacing Brattle Loop (Feb 2024)
